Keynote Address of the Hon’ble MoS (Independent Charge), Ministry of Power & New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) & President of the ISA Assembly

Hon’ble Vice President of India and the President of IIPA.
Distinguished Dignitaries, Excellences, Ladies and Gentlemen!
It is an honour to join the 24th Sun Meet of the ISA at Sardar Patel Bhawan today.

In its outreach efforts, the ISA Secretariat started its first monthly SUN MEET event which is generally held on every third Wednesday of each month. The proposal of the event was first discussed during a meeting organized by Ministry of External Affairs with the Ambassadors / High Commissioners from ISA Prospective member countries in New Delhi on 18th April 2017.

The idea behind the monthly Get-Together was to create a common platform for the prospective member countries and the key stakeholders where issues pertaining to solar development and deployment including innovation, research and development, financing, training and capacity building can be discussed and ratified. The platform was created to pave the way for future technologies that may be adapted to the needs of the member countries of the ISA.

During the event member countries, partner organization and other key stakeholders make presentations on different solar related topics including R&D, capacity building, project implementations, financing etc. which generally followed by lunch.

The first ISA Monthly get together was held on 17th May, 2015 at ISA Secretariat and thus far 23 such SUN Meets (earlier called Get-Together) have been held in Delhi NCR. During the 16th SUN Meet, a field visit was organized for the members to Solar mini-grids in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Similarly, during 21st SUN Meet, a study tour was organized to Karnataka and Kerala which was attended by 37 Ambassador/High Commissioners.

The 64 countries have attended the ISA SUN-Meet so far out of which few countries have been attending the event regularly.

Due to the increasing interest of the participating countries and organisations the numbers of participations in the ISA SUN Meet events is growing.

The SUN MEET is a platform to discuss technologies, brainstorming of ideas, sharing best practices and an opportunity to the ISA Members for their suggestions and interventions to move forward towards the mandate and vision of ISA.

The MoU between IIPA and ISA proposes to facilitate training programmes by IIPA in areas of:
• Technology and R&D Policies
• Country specific regulations
• Renewable Energy Act
• Power generation
• Transmission
• Distribution
• Integration
• Storage
• Case studies from member countries
• Agenda and country specific action plans
• Any other area mutually identifies.

I congratulate and wish the association of IIPA and ISA in its capacity building endeavor all success.
