Seminars/Lectures



2005-2006

Seminar on Matching Expectations :- Seminar on Matching Expectations with a view to analyze whether the administration is meeting the expectations of the different sectors of society. The first such seminar held on 24th March, 2006 had focused on Civil Services vis-à-vis expectations of elected members.

2007-2008

Special Lecture by Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, Member of Parliament and Chairman, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation on “ What is ailing Indian Agriculture”.

2008-2009

Seminar on “Role of Judiciary in improving Governance was held on 11th August, 2008. Justice J.S. Verma, former Chief Justice of India, Shri C.K. Viswanathan, Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs and Shri Lakshmi Chand, IAS (Retd) were the speakers. Shri T.N. Chaturvedi, Chairman, IIPA and Governor of Karnataka delivered the inaugural address. Dr. Yogendra Narain, Chairman, IIPA Alumni Association chaired the session.

Besides, the Association had organized three Special Lectures. These were “Human Rights and Governance” by Dr. Shanker Sen, IPS (Retd), ‘Heritage Conservation and Governance’ by Prof. A.G.K. Menon and “Role of Media in Governance” by Shri S. Nihal Singh, an eminent journalist.

2009-2010

1. Seminar on “Challenges facing the Country” was held on 18th March, 2010. Shri Prakash Javedkar and Shri Tiruchi Siva, Members of Parliament were the main
2.A Panel Discussion on “National Security in the present Regional and Global Environment was organized in collaboration with the Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis on 17TH March, 2010.
3.Besides above, the Association organized the following three lectures
4.India’s Nuclear Doctrine by Maj Gen (Retd) S.C. Chopra, former Additional Director General, Military Operations and Defence Planning.
5.‘GST as an Indirect Tax Reform’ by Shri P.P. Jha, former Chairman, Central Board of Custom and Central Excise.
6.“Electoral Reforms” by Shri N. Gopalaswami, former Chief Election Commissioner.

2010-2011

Association had organized a seminar on Food Security on 11th October, 2010. Shri N.C. Saxena, Former Director, National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie & Member of the National Advisory Council and Shri B. Raj, principal Advisor to the Committee on Food Security of the Supreme Court were the speakers. Dr. Yogendra Narain Chairman, IIPA Alumni Association presided over the function.

On the request of the Alumni Association, The Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis organized a day long capsule on “Present Regional and Global Environment” on 9th August, 2010.

2011-2012

During the year 2011-2012, the IIPA Alumni Association had organized the following events:

1.National Security: A day long capsule on “National Security in the Present Regional and Global Environment” on 7th September, 2011 at the Institute of Defense Studies and Analysis
2.Planning and Governance: Shri Arun Maitra, Member, Planning Commission gave a lecture on “Planning and Governance” on 13th September, 2011.
3.Energy Security: Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Member of Parliament delivered a Special lecture on the subject on 1st November, 2011 followed by an interaction.
4.Planned Perspective in Post Recession Global Environment: Shri Pronab Sen, Advisor, Planning Commission delivered a lecture on the subject on 9th November, 2011.
5.Role of Financial Services in Industrial Growth: Shri U.K. Sinha, Chairman, Security and Exchange Board of India delivered a special lecture on the subject on 9th December, 2011.
6.Parliament Visit: A Visit to Parliament was arranged by the IIPA Alumni Association on 24th August, 2011, for APPPA participants.

2012-2013

Association had organized the following events during 2012-2013

1.International Affairs/Foreign Policy Contours: Linkages with Economic Development of India:- Shri Vivek Katju, former Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs delivered the lecture on 7th September, 2012. This was followed by interaction session.
2.Role of Planning Commission and Approach to the 12th Five Year Plan: Shri B.K. Chaturvedi, Member, Planning Commission delivered the lecture on 3rd September, 2012, followed by interaction session.
3.National Security Issues: The event was organized in consultation with Director General, Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis at their premises on 26th November, 2012.
4.Visit to the Indian Parliament: The visit was conducted on 19th March, 2013.

2014-2015

Alumni Association organised the following lectures:

1.The Contours and Thrust Areas of the Finance Commission: Dr. K. Chaturvedi, former Cabinet Secretary delivered the lecture on 27th October, 2014.
2.Role of Nuclear Energy in Power Sector in India: Dr. Srikumar, erstwhile Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission of India delivered the lecture on 31st October, 2014.
3.Judiciary and the Bureaucracy: The lecture was delivered by Shri R.S. Mathur, former Chief Secretary, Government of U.P. on 5th November, 2014.

National Security Seminar: On the initiative of the IIPA Alumni Association, the seminar was conducted by the Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis on 17th November, 2014.

2015-2016

The following talks had materialized for the benefit of 41st APPPA.

(a) Role and Function of the NITI Aayodg: The lecture was delivered by the Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog on 30th September, 2015

(b) China-India-South Asia Economic and Geo strategic Realities and Emerging Equation: The lecture was delivered by Shri Shyam Saran, former Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, on 01st October, 2015

Net Neutrality: Panel discussion was held on 08th October, 2015.

2016-2017

The following two talks were arranged for APPPA Participants:

1.Development of National Highways: The lecture was delivered by Shri Raghav Chandra, IAS, Chairman, National Highways Authority of India on 26th September, 2016
2.Strategic Challenge to India’s National Security: The lecture was delivered by Cmde C. Uday Bhaskar, former Director, Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis on 26th September, 2016

2017-2018

The following lectures were organized.

1.Achievements in Space Technology – The Indian Story: The lecture was delivered by Dr. K. Kasturirangan, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization on 25th October, 2017
2.The Indian Military Security Challenges: Cmde C. Uday Bhaskar former Director , Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis, delivered the lecture on 14th November, 2017. 3.Economic Dimension of India’s Foreign Policy: The lecture was delivered by Shri Sudhir T. Devare, IFS (Retd), former Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs on 16th November, 2017.
4.Role and Function of the Reserve Bank of India: The lecture was delivered by Shri Bimal Jalan, former Governor of Reserve Bank of India on 4th December, 2017..

2018-2019

The following three lectures were arranged.

1.India’s Defence Policy- Threats from China and Pakistan: The lecture was delivered by Cmde Uday Bhaskar former Director , Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis.
2.Contemporary Issues in India’s Foreign Policy with Emphasis on China and US: The lecture was delivered by Shri Shyam Saran, former Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
3.Intellectual Property Rights: Shri Narendra Sabharwal former United Nations’ Director, Intellectual Property Rights delivered the talk.

2019-2020 (till December 2019)

The following lectures were arranged.

1.Cyber Security- National Challenge: Shri Anup Agarwal, Chairman, Centre for Research on Cyber Crime and Cyber Law, delivered the lecture.
2.Intellectual Property Rights – Implications for India: The lecture was delivered by Shri Narendra Subharwal, former Under Secretary to the United Nations, Geneva.
3.What Aims Indian Agriculture – Issues and Solutions: Shri Siraj Hussain, IAS (Retd), former Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Government of India, delivered the lecture.
4.Future Defence Strategy for India: The lecture was delivered by Cmde C. Uday Bhaskar,

Former Director, Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis.
